About AFN

Established over 20 years ago, the Australian Fishing Network (AFN) began operation with the release of our flagship publication, Freshwater Fishing Australia magazine.

Australian Fishing Network is the biggest fishing media company in Australia with regards to producing the largest variety of fishing media products. Many anglers in Australia talk of the 90/10 rule, referring to the saying that 10% of anglers catch 90% of the fish. At AFN we have made it our mission to improve these numbers in favour of every recreational fisher in Australia. We refer to this concept as “Changing the Ratio”. To prove our point, we are continually striving to bring to the marketplace, the biggest and best range of quality fishing information and accessories. Whether you are an expert fisher, or just starting out, we have the information to make you better! We invite you to peruse our huge range of magazines, DVD’s, books, guides and accessories. Simply look towards the tabs above and start clicking, we hope you enjoy the journey!

Over the years, publisher Bill Classon launched a further two periodicals: Flyfisher magazine and Saltwater Sport Fishing now known as Sport Fishing Australia magazine. With the rapid growth of Kayak fishing, Sport Fishing Australia now incorporates Yak Fisher a dedicated kayaking fishing magazine.

History

Freshwater Fishing Australia is an institution for many anglers and for good reason. Many anglers account some of their ‘firsts’ (experiences and fish) to lessons they learned from this magazine.

In today’s world where massive amounts of information is available on the web, our aim is to provide readers with the fastest, most accurate and most entertaining route to the information they most need to advance their fishing pursuits—whatever they are!

First published over 24 years ago, Freshwater Fishing Australia is one of the longest running fishing magazines in Australia. It is still going strong and is the leader in its field! This is especially significant as its content is ‘restricted’ to fresh water locations and species.

The magazine’s popularity and strength has been its concentration on providing information that fishers can apply to improve their success rate in a way that all readers can understand. Many readers still have all copies of this magazine and still refer to them regularly to refresh their skills.

All of the well-known and respected fishing writers have contributed to this magazine at some time in its history. Current experts who are regular contributors include Bill Classon, Greg French, Rod Harrison, Trevor Hawkins, Rod Mackenzie, Andrew McGovern, Frank Prokop, Steve Starling, Nigel Webster, Philip Weigall and many others.
